Shouldn't all people pay the same price?
This is a reasonable question and deserves a response.
The first thing to say is that the products are good, will help you do your job fast and well, and are totally worth the full price.
The second thing to say is that students and enthusiasts, generally speaking, don't have financial resources of say, Lockheed Martin. (citation needed) So either we don't give them a discount, to keep things totally fair, and they can no longer afford to buy Saleae gear, or, we give them a suitably large discount. Assuming that our product is better than alternatives, I would prefer if students and enthusiasts use it - even if we don't make very much on each sale.
Startups -- and here I do not mean startups brimming with VC cash -- are also not in the position of having the financial resources of Lockheed Martin, and, having been there, we'd like to help them get off the ground so to speak, so it seems reasonable to help at least in this small way.
